The map, not the myth
Most clinics know where patients complain. Fewer have agreed timings for each handoff. Appointment Flow Mapping puts stopwatches and simple sketches on the journey from arrival to discharge so debates about “slow registration” become shared numbers.
Days on the floor
Observers shadow (without recording clinical content) how long patients wait at each station, how often they loop back, and when staff batch work that creates afternoon piles. We avoid interrupting care; timings are taken from discrete vantage points agreed with your charge nurse.
Workshop
On the final afternoon we pin the flow map and invite front-desk, nursing, and a medical lead to mark one change they can trial within two weeks — for example splitting cash and insurance desks, or opening a second vital-signs bay before 09:00.
Preparation
Nominate two pathways (for example first-visit vs follow-up), introduce us to reception leads, and allow quiet observation near queues.
Next step
Tell us which pathways worry you most and your busiest weekdays — we propose observation dates.
